R. Murie, an Invercargill balloonist, made a successful ascent of about -700ft on the Bth, landing on a mudbank m the estuary. The weather was calm. At the Bluff on the 7th * fracas occurred amongst (sailors belonging to the Norwegian barque Hermes which resulted ift the T steward being knifed, sustaining affl S?v wound aSout the thigh. H.e assailant was taken into custody by the pohce- At? a sitting of the local court on Saturday h* was remanded for a week, pending f«r"»erf developments. The case is not considered dangerous.
