CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS

CHRISTCHURm. February 7 There has been a fairly large amount done in wheat during the past few days, and pi ices have been rather better, as buyeis were operating more freely to fill their requirements. It is now 9tated that orders for T^orth Island millers are now filled for the time being, and local milleis. having laid in stocks, there is an easing off in the demand Among tht sales reported are a mixed line of 3500 bus;hels at 4s 4d. 2000 bushels of pearl at 4s 4d, 1000 bushels of Tuscan and toearl at 4s 4d. 2000 bushels of Hunters and 800 bushels at 4s 3ld, and 7000 bushel? of Tuscan and pearl at 4s 3d at country stations. Business in oats has. on the other hand, slackened off. They are not offering so freely, and buyers are apparently not very keen after them. For feed 2s is generally offered, aud for prime miTling, which has been scarce so far, 2s 2d at country stations ■would probably be paid. The price of oatmeal has been reduced £1 per ton. and is now quoted at £14. I There is nothing fresh to report in regaid to barley. While buyers are not operating ■ to any extent, prime samples are saleable, t>ut- lately 5s 3d is the best price reported •to have been obtained. There is a fair amount of cocksfoot on I the market, but, on the other hand, growers , are very firm in their ideas of value, and | for the bulk of the 121b to 13lb peed aid to Bid is being paid. For a prime line of 1140 Vushels of ryegrass 3s 6d has bsen paid at j b country station. I Oat sheaf chaff is worth £3 2s 6d for im- ! mediate and £3 for forward delivery, but there 1 is not much business doing. j
