There was a slight lecovery yesterday and to-day owing to better inquiry from the Continent, but no demand for Australian cargoes. South Australia new crop now loading was offered at 38s 9d. Small supplies of Australian spot are held at 44s 6d. Flour : Quiet. Australian patents, spot, offered 29s 6d. The Bradford wool market is dull, and little business is passing. Common sixties, 25; d; super., 26id. Butter : The market is excited. Danish, 134s to 1365. Saks ex Tongariro commenced at 120s to 1225, but rapidly rose to 128s to 130s, at which it was cleared, secondaries making practically the same prices as choicest. Holders are asking 1386 to 140s for Australian ex Omrah, with no prospect of any reduction. The rise is chiefly due to the great shortage, but many consider the Butter Act is also responsible by checking the sale of mixtures. Retailers are now charging 14d and 16d for colonial. Cheese: Dull. New Zealand, 59s to 61s ; Canadian, 63s to 645. February 9. Hemp : Quiet. January and March shipment, £27 12s 6d. Frozen Heat.— Mutton : North Island. 3*d ; be&t brands, 3|d; the r.est unchanged Beef: Fores, 2|d; hinds, 3id; La Plata fores, 2?d; hinds, 2gd. Babbits- Firm and hardening. Many of the new season's are offering at 12s to 12s 6d (c.i.f.).
