AGRICULTURE IN CANTERBURY.

CHRISTCHURCH, February 3. Since the extreme heat experienced last Wednesday, when the thermometer was 95 in the shade, there has been a pleasant change in the weather, cool days and r.ights taking the place of the former almost unbearable heat. The showers which fell towards the end of last week ha^e had a beneficial effect on the gardens and gTeen corps, which have revived considerably durinj the past tew days. The rainfall, however, haa not been neariy sufficient for the rape and turnip crops, which require 24- hours' steady rain. Reports from the country districts Bhow that the |r«in crops are all threshing out unexpectedly well, heavy yields being reported from all parts of the province. The quality oi the grain is uniformly good, and unless there ifi a great change in the weather conditions during the next three weeks the average quality should be equal, if not superior, to that of recent years. Grain. is conning' on the market in limited quantities, bu ' _ holders show no dispostition to accept prices below 4s 2d to 4s 4d for wheat and 2s Id to 3s 4d for oats, both at country stations, sacks extra-.
