PALMERSTON N.. JanuaW 30. The Defence Committee of the Farmers' Union and delegates from Wanganui, Hawke's Bay, and the Wairarapa met here today. Mr J. G. Wilson -was in the chair, and went through the shearers' demands and the answers to the various questions and circulars which have been received from the various branches. The com-

mittes considered the counter proposals and drew up a case for the delegates, who were then appointed to meet the shearers in conference. The original day fixed for the conference, Saturday, Ist inst.. being unsuitable for the shearers, it was decided to hold it on Tuesday next. February 4.
