LAWN TENNIS.

BY RACQUET.

The "B" 'Grade match, St. Kilda v. Hauraro, was finished on Saturday last, and resulted in a win for the George Street dub by 31 games, who received 33 games handicap. The handicapper* were somewhat out in their prognostications, and must have expected St. Kilda to have done rnuoh better than they did. Bath was unable to play on Saturday, consequently I "thia in a way militated against his clab s ■ chances. Hauraro scored heavily . in the I men's events, winning three of the singles ' and the 'two doubles. The combined and ? ladies' events were nearly all won by the St. Kilda Club. - - - It must be a very difficult matter for the Match Committee to handicap "B " Grade events, as most of -the players are perfect strangers, and their individual play i« quite an unknown quantity. A good deal of • speculation must be exercised to arrive at a suitable handicap. The St. Kilda Club have been recently ■working hard at their club tournaments. Every night the conrts ; are kept busily engaged in these events, and -the greatest amount of enthusiasm exists amongst the members.

I understand the programmes for Easter will be out during the present month. There in every indication that this will

be the largest Otago tournament held { Dunedin. AUCKLAND January 29. The following have been selected to repre« sent Auckland in the annual lawn tennit contest against Taranaki: — Messrs Upton, Grossman, Billing, W. A. Brown, Turner, and Dr Keith, Mrs Cooper, Misses Harvey, Gray. and Udy.
