CUSTOMS RETURNS
The Customs duhe-s collected at the port of Dunedin for the monta" of January show a considerable increase as compared with! those for the corresponding month of 190 1. For the month just closed the figures were a-» follow— Customs duties, £45,194 18s 7d : beer excise duty. £3042 6s 7d. The amount of gold exported was 15 380oz, valued at £62,256. The figures for January, 1907, were:—Customs dtities, £43,607 4s Id; beer excise duty, £3016 13s 4d; and the amount of gold exported was 40490z, valued at £16,198.
