February 1 — Weather and Crops- The weather continues dry. and the grass is getting very brown, while the late turnips arc almost at a standstill. A few showers fell en Thursday, but a good steady rain is badly needed. The warm winds have brought on the crops very ranidlv, and harvest is now general Some have already stacked oats, and altogethei he harvest is earlier than for many years. On the whole the yield shou'd be well up to, the average, and perhaps over.

Cricket. — The annual cricket match between Milburn and Wylie's Crossing was this year played at Milburn. The visitors were met at Clarendon Station, and after being shown round the phosphate works were hospitab'y entertained by Mr and Mrs Williamson. The match, which was played in a very friendlj spirit, was keenly contested. Milburn made 71, and the visitors responded with 82, Wylie's Crossing thus winning by 11 runs. Riddle bowled sp'endidly for Milburn. and Fmdlay batted well for the winners. After the match afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies, and che-ers were Sicnangetl by tile teams.

Departure. — Mr H. Pearce, who has for some time been a resident of Milburn, has left for Dunedin, where he has obtained a situation. He will be much missed from the choir, of which he was an active member. Mr F. Hare, jiin., has also left the district, he having obtained a position in the railway service. Prior to his departure a large nun> ber of young people gathered at his father's house, and a very enjoyable evening was spent with games of all sorts, and speeches, etc. We wish him every success in his new spheie.

Ecclesiastical.— The Rev. G. Miller, from Milton, conducted the service at Milburn last Sunday evening, when there was a good congiegation. At a meeting of the Church Committee the resignation of Mjss Henderson as organist was received with regret. JMiss Henderson is to be married shortly. She has been very faithful in her attendance as Sunday school teacher and organist.
