At a special meeting of Nelson City Council on tho 30th ult. to consider the question of fixing tlio half-holiday deputations were pre«en< favouring Wednesday, and Saturday \. • supported by a very large gathering r>r townspeople. After a heated debate the council resolved in favour of Saturday, which, will, therefore, be the statutory closing day for the next 15 months, when the ratepayers will vote on the question at the municipal elections. The proceedings were lively throughout, and at times the crowd in the auditorium was very disorderly.
