ALLEGED SWINDLE
THE CHARGE AGAINST M. LEMOINE. LONDON,. January 31. M. Lemoine, the French engineer charged with swindling Sir Julius Wernhsr in connection with the manufacture of diamonds, testified that after holding his manufactured diamonds for three months for microscopical examination Messrs Beit, Wernher, and others at the head of the diamond trade isutified his agreement with Wernher, and pai<i him £60,XX)0. M. Lemoine was arrested at Paris last month on a charge of swindling Sir Juliue Wernher of £64,000 by pretending that he was able to manufacture diamonds. The accused denies that his system is a fraud, and claims that he has demonstrated his discovery. He says he made a contract with Julius Wernher in which it was stipulated that the formula to manufacture diamonds should be deposited in a London bank," to remain there unopened until hisdeath, when it would become Wernher's property. ,^____________
