WAR OFFICE CONTRACTS.
COMPLAINT BY VICTORIA.
LONDON, January 25. Mr Taverner (Agent-general for Vie* tori a) -interviewed Mr Haldane (Minister of War) and complained that the altera« tions made by the' War Office in the specifications for tinned meat contracts, closing on January 13, by permitting the: use of cheaper tine had placed Victorian tenderers at a disadvantage as compared with Americans.
Mr Haldane said lie regr-etted that 3 mistake had been made, and promised Itliat Australia would be given amplff notice of an alteration in the specific* tions in future.
