LABOURERS' UXIOjV.

A special meeting of the above union was held at Milton on Tuesday night, when there was a good attendance. TMr J. A. Scott (president) occupied the chair. Correspondence from the Minister of Railways, the Inspector of Factories, Mr, J. A. M'Cullough, the secretary of the Dunedin General Labourers' Union, and the Waikato Miners' Union was received and dealt with.

The special object of the meeting was to discuss the question ac to 'what would be a fair wage to ask for harvesting and threshing- bands during- the coming season.. The matter was fully .and carefully, considered, and «• unanimous decision was arrived at. It was decided to confer with the local millowners and Farmers' Union with the object of coming to a mutual agreement on the point, and a deputation for that purpose was appointed. Complaints having been made that individual hands had a difficulty in obtaining a daily statement of their time, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to each tear* working dvving the season, tfi.

select a representative from their number for the purpose of getting the time for all the hands every night.

It was decided to ask the Minister a Labour to receive a deputation on one op two matters of special importance to the union.

In regard to a. request from the secretary of the Dunedin General Labourers'. Union, that the union should appoint- delegates to a conference to be held about Easter, for the purpose of bringing- about the federation of all general labourers'- unions, Messrs J. .A. Scott -and J. R. Lynch were ap< pointed delegates for the purpose. ." .. # It was decided , to take steps for pushing the organisation' of the ~ union in other districts, and the question of making the necessary arrangements was left in the hands of the exfecutive, with full power to act.
