THE KARANGAHAKE MINE CONFLICTING STATEMENTS.

AUCKLAND, January 27.
Following upon a report upon -the Karang*« hake mine from one of ita correspondents', the Herald now publishes the following reply received by the directors; of the BJanmg»h«ke Company from their mine manager: — "Witti respect to the report appearing in the Herald, I may state that -the portion relating- to myself not going up the hill' is oorreot. I had been up four times that day/ with viators, and when the Herald, representative arrived at 5 p.m. I hed had neither dinner nor tea-. There is- a reef showing gold all the -way down, and -this morning (24th) I obtained! about a pound of picked ston« fronr the bottom of th« winze, and the leef is looking as well as ever." The supervisor also wires that the report ia incorrect, and that- gold is got at every breaking down. A party of directors leaves to-night for « visit to ttt» property.
