DEPARTURE OF THE GALILEE. CHRIOTCHURCH, January 17. The Carnegie Institution's magnetic survey yacht Galilee left Lyttelton this morning for Oallao and San Diego in order to oomplete her cruise in the Pacific. A number of the friends of the scientists assembled on the wharf to bid farewell Jo the party. There was a fresh southerly wind blowing, and the little vessel commenced to set canvas as soon as «he was clear of the breakwater. A few minutes later the Galilee had cleared the heads ! under a cloud of canvas. Commander Peter*, in conversation with a reporter a fewminutes before tho vessel's departure, said that he and his -party had spent a very pleasant time in Christchurdh and LytteL* ton. Everybody had been extremely kind 1 , - and he desired to express his great appre- . oiation of the hospitality extended to £h4 i members of the expedition.
