ACCIDENT IN A COPPER MINE
♦ MADRID, January 16. A thousand men have been thrown idle at the Rio Tinto copper mines. The substitution of stone pillars for wooden props caused cracks in the ground, in some instances a yard wide, and the subsidence led to the collapse of many houses in the course of construction.
