VALEDICTORY PRESENTATION.
FAREWELL TO ARCHDEACON GOULD. -" (From Ora Own Oobbbsbohdent.) OAMARUV January 8. The parishioners 'of St. Luke's Church, ' Oamaru, entertained Archdeacon and Mrs Gould at a valedictory social on Tuesday evening, when a largo number attended to express their, cordial esteem for'- ihe retiring vicar and his wife, and their regret at the severance.' The chair was occupied by Mr W. Williamson, parishioners' churchwarden, 'and in addressing the .meeting he remarked that Archdeacon n Gould had been vicar a£ Oamaru for 18 years, and the regret athia departure was not confined to the, parishioners, for all in the community were of the same mind. Their -^ioar had taken a keen interest , in public matters, and , had been especially useful in educational matters and on the Athenseum Committee, etc. Mrs Gould had been most active and /helpful in the Ladies' Guild, and! Misa Gould in the Sunday school. Dr Garland, . on behalf of many friend* including some not members of St. Luke's congregation,, presented to Archdeacon Gould a very handsome gold watch and a weighty purse of sovereigns, a testimony to the appreciation which he had! earned during- ins residence here, andf to the unanimous hope that fee would be long spared to follow his noble oaHinff. Mr W, C. MTDouall, vJtear'a cha^onr warden, made very cordial reference t<* 'the pleasure which 'Ht had been to worifc with Archdeacon Gould',' and the Hon. T. Y. Duncan, M.P., also had a fevr words to say. A presentation of stoles for use on certain occasions was. also made from, tha Young Men's and Ladies' Clubs in connection with the ohurch. I Replying to the speejehes, and acknowledging the presentations, Archdeacon Gould referred to the changes wrought •by tima in the 18 years. For the great kindness shown him and, his wife and family 'ha would express 'his sincere thanks, and ha' hoped that the parish would continue to prosper.
