NOTES.

The two clubs are now fully embarkec^n. their new year, with the new office-beard s. I wish them both many successful meetings end a thoroughly prosperous year in 1908. I suppose it has not happened before that the office of President has been filled in both the clubs by a member of the gentler sex; it is an encouragement to Shasta and! Emerald to think they are on their mettle for the honour of their sex as well as for the success of the clubs.

We owe Shasta a debt of thanks this week for the charming little original fairy tale she has sent us about our clematis. I feel as if I caiL— -^lear the fairies planning to get their white star flower with the golden heart, don't you? I hope Shasta will some day tell us some more of the beautiful .thoughts she can think and put on paper.

The next Special Club Numbar is to be the Witness of February 5. I shall be very happy to receive any matter suitable for that occasion in the form of notes or jottings. I hope to publish in that number accounts of the Oamaru and Riverton picnics and of the interclub debate; also some notes that •I have already in hand and some special papers. Anything more pertaining o club affairs in the matter of suggestions for debates or for the conduct of the clubs will bo gladly received. Old writers, of course, are entitled to write on any such questions.
