BLUESKIN SHOW.
The fortieth annual sftow of the Blueskin 'A. and P. Association was held on the | customary show ground at Waitati on the Bth. The weather was beautifully fine, with a cool south-east breeze tempering the warm rays of the sun. There was a large attendance of the public on the ground, including visitors from Waikouaiti, Palmereton, Merton, Port Chalmers, Dunedin, and intermediate places, and the show, from a gate as well as from almost every other point of view, was quite as successful ac any of its many predecessors./ The local brass band was on the ground during the day, ana played a number of selections, and there were a number of the customery eide shows, run by private individuals, which seemed to do a fair amount of business. The stewards, secretary, and officers of the , society '^worked energetically all day to make everything go smoothly, the judges j ■got through their work in good time, and the decisions arrived at gave general satisfaction. General regret was expressed during the day on the ground at the absence j of the late secretary of the society (Mr L. i 6. Fenwick), who met his death recently as I the result of an accident. The late Mr Fen- j ■wick occupied the position of secretary of j the society for a number of years, and was a highly-respected settler of the district, and by general consent the secretarial duties of the father have fallen upon his son (Mr A. 6. Fenwiek), who discharged them in a very efficient manner at yesterday's annual show gathering. From a showpoint of fiew, the strong feature of yesterday's exhibition at Waitati was the numetous^entries and the excellent cattle exhibits. The entries in this section exceeded those of any previous year, and outnumbered those oi last year by over 25 head, and the animals shown, taken all round, were higher in quality and better in condition than at any of the recent shows held throughoutOtago. Ayrshires were a particularly strong class, and, as will be seen from the prize list, Mr P. Ireland, the well-known Goodwood ■ breeder, was the largest prize-taker, the cattle from Orakanui Home and other? shown by Messrs D. Keid, J. Wetherstone, T. Lewis, Mrs K. B. Ferguson, and other exhibitors being not far behind those from I Mr' Ireland' - excellent herd. The bulls, i from the aged class downwards, were an excellent lot, and the cows were up to the high' standard of former shows, very little dividing the first and second aged cows. All the heifers showed good breeding. Crossbred ' cattle were a fair lot, _ and in this class there was good competition, the awards being well distributed. In Jerseys and Alderneys entries were few, Mr M. Pryde showing a very good bull and heifer in Alderneys. Shorthorns were not a strong class, but the mixed cattle were a, fairly- good class, the cows being a profit- , able-lookin-g assemblage of dairy cattle. Horses, draughts and hacks, were of high quality generally, but there were among ; the hacks and so-called thoroughbreds the j usual- percentage of weeds to be found afc j almost every country show. The feature of | the draughts was the excellent ring. of dry - mares, and brood mares- with foal at foot were also a "good exhibit, and the yearlings and foals were In most instances a promising lot youngsters. Pigs and poultrywere not numerous, and in these classes there was scarcely any. competition. Mr Crosbie Morris (of Messrs Stronach and Morris) has' donated to the society a handsome silver cup to be competed for annually, and which gees to the exhibitor securing the largest number of points at each show. The cup has to be won three times before becoming; the absolute property " of the successful exhibitor, and as Mr P. Ireland (Goodwood) secured the largest number of points" at yesterday's show he •will hold' the cup for the first year. Among the special prizes donated to the t society for competition yesterday there was : also a sum of £2 2s given by Mr S. Solomon, X.0., for the best walking horse (irrespective of quality), and this was won by Messrs Brown and Neill (Dunedin). The following is the prize-list : — j HORSES. " i Draughts.
