The secretary reported on fhe pjogresi] made with the collecting, which so far i& satisfactory, although some £60 is yet r«t quired. We have had inquiries from playcs rpi garding certain points in the rules of thrt coming tournament, and with the hope oi enlightening others we reprint the rules so far agreed to: — — Rules for Championship Tournament, 1908.— « 1. The tournament shall be for the championship of the Dominion of New Zealand-, the title to be held for twelve months from. date of tournament. 2. The tourney to be played on the twomove ballot restriction, the same as th» Scottish tournament. 3. Play in the tourney shall be on thai all-round system, each competitor to playi two games with every other competitor, a " win to count one point and a draw half su point. . " v 4. The number and value of prizes shall be fixed by a sub-committee previous to commencement of play. 5. A handicap including all competitors shall be drawn up and sealed previous to commencement of play. 6. Only actual scores of players to bs counted in determining championship prizes. 7. All ties in the championship to be decided on the percentage system. 8. Play in the tourney shall be governed by the rules of the game as in Anderson's" fourth edition, with the "exception of the time rule. 9. The time rule according to the rules of the game in Anderson's fourth edition shall be applied to the play in • any round "bj^ order of the referee when he considers" it., necessary in the interests of the tourney, or at the request of either of the contestant} in any round; the time-keeper to be appointed by the referee. 10. The pairing of players shall be left solely in the hands of the referee. 11. The hours of play shall be 9 a.m. Uf 12 noon, 1.30 to 5 p.m., and 7 to 10 p.m* every lawful day until conclusion of tourna* nient. No games shall be started with • now opponent in any session after 11.30 a.m.. I 4.30, or 9.30 p.m., unless at the option of the players concerned. 12. Any game commenced to be finished be» fore adjournment unless otherwise mutually, arranged. 13. Any competitor absent from any session without valid reason or the referee's sano» tion shall have-half a point deducted fron» his score for each half-hour he is absent. 14. Any competitor failing to conclude hiC play in the tournament without valid reason shall forfeit £5 to the funds of the association. The score of any competitor failing Uf finish shall be struck off the record. 15. Entrance fee shall be 10s 6d. Entries' close on April 15, at 8 o'clock. 16. All games played in the tourney shall become the property of the tournament com* mittee, and competitors are requested toi write out copies of games on completion of each round. 17. The annual meeting of N.Z. Associatiodi will be held on Good Friday night.
