SERIOUS GRASS FIRE.
"BLENHEIM, January Iff A large grass fire last night on-Bank-house .Run, Wairau Valley, swept over about 2500 acres, destroying the station, stables - and -outbuildings. . _ The house -was- "". saved with difficulty. ' Portions of a valuable plantation were destroyed," and several telegraph poles were burnt." No stock are thought to have been lost. v The/Waihqpei River flat was cleared, of 'gorse and briar. On the whole £he burn did more good than harm. The' stables and outbuildings were insured for £290 in' the New Zealand office. . . Another fire, at Riverlands, was extv** * eruished durinjr the, afternoon.
