Jiairuary 10. — The conversation© given byth® ladies' Guild in the hall on Christinas its* very -well attended, and the programme tsabmitt&d -very good. The -Rev. Mr Paulia presided, .and called on Miss Dodds-to play a pia.no solo, after Which oame Miss E. I Dunn and Miss 33. Bruce, piano duet; j Mr Blue (Kmapdale),' "Naaareth." ; Miss E. i Dunn, "The dear homeland"; Miss M'lnnis, violin solo ; Mr P. DaJrympl©, "Tjochnagar" ; Miss Smaill (Eiversda.le), . •'IhtSodils a-"blow-ing"; Tfc Roibson, "G»e bring to me" ; Miss ' H&rgist, recitation, instrumental selection, Scotch airs "by tihe Dunn family, end Messrs Blue and! Millair; duet by Miss Archibald and Mr Robson, "Denza's Nocturne" ; Miss Smaill, "The rowan tree"; Mr R MTDonald, "Scotland yet"; Miss Archibald/ "Lament ■of Floia" M'Diomaia.'' ; Mr Blue, "Britannia"; Miss F. Archibald? "The Auld Hoose." Tho Rev. Mr M'lnnis finished the programme by singing a student song. The aocompanitaenis were played 'by Mrs Stewart and Misses Archibald, Minnis-, -and Smaill, ana Mr PreßKe. Nearly every item. ,was encored. | Tea and ligbt refresnmenis were provided by the ladies, and an enjoyable evening was spoilt by a lot of young men who ought to have known 'bettei maiing^so much noise that some of the performers refused to sing. Votes of thanks to the president (Mrs A. x Stewart), the chairman (Rev. Mr Paulin), " ladies, aiid the performers terminated the proceedings. A Weddings—On December 27 we h.a<3_ a pretty wedding in the church, when Miss JSfKaty was married to Mr D. A. Dunn, of Christchurchr The Rev. Ut Paulin officiated, «nd th© church, wlich was nicely decorated, j •was crowded witb friends. The bride was attended by Miss E. Dunn and Miss M'Kenna " «s - Tjrictesmaids, -wliile Messrs John M Jlay and W. Dunn attended on the bridegroom. An adjournment was toade to th© hall, -Wiere * sumptuous wedding breakfast was served and the customary toasts duly honoured. In the evening Mr and Mrs af'Kay entertained a targe number of young 'folk at their residence, Braemore, Otawa. Picnic. — We celebrated, our holidays by tolding a Band of Hope picnic- on Christmas 3D*y in Mr M'Hroy's paddock. Everyone «njoyed the games, etc., and there was abundance of refreshments. On New Year's Day ■the annual picnic- of the district was held in the school grounds, when there was a znoderate attendance. The day was favourable, and the winners in the various races, ■etc., got very handsome prizes. The pic- ' snickers were mudh indebted to Me=srs By-ars, iLogan, M'Meekin, Biobsrts-an, -and Yoiston, <who were assiduous in looking after everyone's comfort and enjoyment. Refreshnienug in abundance, and anyone who was not Satisfied mast be a born growler. In th© evening the -usual dance was held in the ball, which was very well attended, and a •v-eTy enjoyable affair. -to be had. Shearing is being put through, T and the weather is favourable. GTass -is .giving out, and all the email creeks are , drying up. Band of Hope.— -At a meeting of the Otama Band of Hope, ield on January 10, a ~very .good programme- -was gone through consisting of reoitertions by Misses M'JKayamd Walker, «nd Stanley and -Gordon Dunn, a dialogue by Misses MSHroy and Dunn., a duet by Misses M'liachlan. and Dunn, and a solo by Mias Emmi Dunn. Mt John Dunn (presi- I dent) -gave an address dealing principally , witn th© manner in which American busi- i ness men deal vrith their workmen on the liquor question. Mr Ales. M'Kay also spoke in favour of abstinence, and asked for a vote -of thanks to the performers, which was 'duly accorded.
