A NATIONAL REPROACH.
LONDON, January 8. Lord Roberts has appealed to the nation to subscribe funds to rescue the Crimean and Indian Mutiny veterans from the workhouse. The King has become patron and has subscribed 1000 guineas. The Prince of Wales, the Duke of Connaught, and Prince Christian are vicepatrons. I An extremely influential committee has been formed. January 9. Her Majesty the Queen has subscribed 500 guineas to the Veterans' Relief Fund, the Prince of Wales 250 guineas, and Viscount Iveagh, Six Ernest Cassel, the Duke of Bedford, and the proprietor of the Daily Telegraph 1000 guineas each.
