AMERICA AND JAPAN.
NEW YORK, January 9. Lecturing at Hartford, Connecticut, Captain Hobson, of Santiago Bay renown, declared that America had been taking the backwater from Japan, and now only one thing remains before war-^viz., a pretext. America must refuse to let a crisis arise until her fleet reaches the Far East. Captain Hobson added that it is doubtful if it can ever get there. j Considerable indignation is expressed at such jingoism.
