Owing to the fall in the Australian market very littie shipping business was done, and competition was confined principally to the local buyers. Prices for good heavy ox hides were equal to those ruling at the November sales, but light andi medium weight descriptions were easier to the extent of id to £d per lb. Teport "' having heldl their usual fortnightly sale of ' hides at their stores, Crawford street, on Friday afternoon, when there was the usual attendance of buyers. ■ Competition for all lines of well-saved hides was particularly keen, but, as was to be expected, prices for light weights were easier, while cut and damaged were only saleable at very low rates. Medium and heavy-weights showed no altei'ationi from the previous sale. We. offered a. '-very largo catalogue, consist- . ing of 1216 hides, yearlings, and calfskins, and cleared the lot at full rates.
