From centres outside the city the following amounts have been received, or have been notified asrin the hands of the local committees up to the end of 'the year:—Hastings (through “Hawke’s Bay Tribune’’). £364; Levin (through “Daily Chronicle’’), £72; Otaki (through the Mayor). £B6; Musterton (through the Mayor) £250; Hawera (through the Mayor), £250; Lower Hutt (Local committee), £300; Paekakariki (local committee), £64; Upper Hutt Valley (local committee), £80; Petone (through His Worship the Mayor), £l5B 16s sd; Eastbourne (through Mr. Levy), £4-1. The city was divided into 10 blocks, with a view to effectively canvass. There were only sufficient. * workers to cover seven blocks, leaving nearly twothirds of the city uncovered. As the average collected in tho block was about £SO, it is assumed that another £6OO would have been collected had sufficient workers turned up. The committee has decided to make a further appeal for the balance necessary to complete the fund before the end of the present month, when it is expected that the amount aimed at will be subscribed.
