OTAKI STATE SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. j The ordinary monthly meeting of thrcommittee of the Otaki state School was held on Monday night. Present: M'essrs J. R. Bills (chairman), F. Targuse, AA T . J. Barlow (secretary), Mrs. Bills, Revs. Petrie and Keall. Correspondence was read from the Education Board stating that £l.' (capitation grant) had been placed to tho credit of the school. A letter was received, in reply to one sent by the committee, to the effect that Mr. Powell would shortly visit the district, and would report on the bub-ble-fountain which the committee claimed was unsatisfactory. —Members of the committee objected to the delay which has occurred and it was desired to telegraph to the Board asking that the matter receive prompt attention. An account for £47 Ss S'l from. L. McMinn for work done in connection with the fountain was received, but held over, pending a report from the Board’s architect. The Secretary reported that tenders had been received from the various plumbers in the town for laying highpressure water at the school, and that he had accepted the tender of H. I>Jlmister, at £3 10s. A letter was receiv- | ed from the Borough Council stating the water would be supplied free for the fountain. T'no headmaster reported that Xnjhad been placed to the credit of the Committee as a result of the * ale oj: work which amount was for further asphalting. ( ~ . Ar>- Pmitli also wrote stating that ho" had placed his resignation in the hand; of the Education Board, to take effect at the end of the holidays. Hk took the opportunity of thanking the committee for its unvarying courtesy and help, especially Mr. Bills for his unselfish work during his many years of office.— lt was decided to urge, upon the Board the necessity of having a first-class all-round teacher appointed "in Mr. Smith’s place. It was reported that there ws? a credit of £S 10s 10-M for the sports and picnic fund.—This was considered Verr satisfactovy. It was agreed that the next picnic be held early in February, but the date was left in abeyance. The matter of where to hold the picnic was well discussed, and while some favoured the Otaki beach others consulted - change wa= desirable. It was suggested that the children be taken to PUmmerton. Paekakariki or some other beach, while the matter of taking thorn to Wellington was favourably considered or some.
