Sir Julius Vogel, founder of the Public Trust Office, said in the House of Representatives fifty years ago: "Honourable Members must be aare that it is very difficult to obtain Trustees for wives and children, or executors under wills with sufficient time at their disposal to do justice to the aask; ai»i even when after somje dii culty and a great sacrifice to friendship such trustees are obtained, no one can be sure that in the case of death or removal their plax:e will bewell supplied." To meet a vital need of the people Sir Julius Vogel secured the establishment of the Public Trust Office. The remarkable .expansion of the business in five decades, is a great monument to a far seeing statesman. On the 31st March, 1923, the number of wills safely deposited with the Public Trustee approximated 35,000. and this total is in-' creasing at the rate of evr 400 a month. These figure/ in a country of 1,250,000 population, afford very emphatic evidence of the people's confidence in their own State-gua-ranteed Office.
