OTAKI BOROUGH COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the above Council was held vesterdav. Present: 2j s Worship the Mayor (Mr. .1. P. Brandon). Ors. 11. Kiliuister, H. Coekrell, P Rikihana. H. Taylor, and C. Kilsby. Pound Site. The. question of a new pound area was discussed and Cr. Kilsby and the Town Clerk reported that 'the south corner of the present gravel pit could be utilised for the purpose by placing a gate on Riverbank Road, where the ground hid- high. The cost of the removal oi' tlio piresenl buildings, etc., would not exeee'd £2O, including strengthening of the fences. Thev idsu stated that thev had examined the ;m ■;, of land owned by-Mr. Nobles, and Found that whilst it. would make an excellent pound site the expense was not justified. It was agreed that the removal of the pound site be proceeded with. New Street. Cr. Kilsby and the Clerk also reported that the land suggested for the continuation of Dunstan Street be taken under_the Public Works Act. The total area to be taken (from Mill to the stream only) was tit>.."i perches, and assuming it worth £l5O per acre the value worked out at £(SO, to which had to be added about £2O for transfer ami solicitor's charges. Kllmislor favoured a footpath on the main road from Montere hospital to tinRailway station, and the Mayor agreed, adding' that the whole road needed widening. If the road was widened Cr. Ktlmister considered there would be no immediate hurry for the continuation of Dunstan Street. Cr. Kilsby considered kind should be taken for the continuation of the street and moved accordingly. —.Seconded !.y Cr, Taylor and carried. Water Supply. The Clerk also reported relative to the water supply for Mr. L, Edwards and stated :Jin pipe would cost £:i;j, and be sufficient for domestic supply. He thought it might be advisable to suggest to the Horowhenua Council that it pay half cost towards a large pipe, say I Jin, the consumers on the County side to be treated at "extraordinary supplies." Outside Consumers. The Mayor reported that trouble had arisen over the water supply at- the Ruhui factory and he had authorised a connection from (he Borough main which would brine in revenue to the extent of about £PJ(> a year. There was no fear of a shortage as far as the Borough was concerned and he suggested 'hat (he Railway now be approached to lake water. The Mayor's .-onion was endorsed while it, was agreed to write to- (he Railway Department on the matter. Or. Kilsby said he would like to makt! sure that thcre would be ample water available for ratepayers in the Borough before outsiders were connected up. ft was agreed that water supply for building purposes be 5s for each house built of wood and 10s for house built of brick or concrete, it was decided that no charge be made for w.c. connect ions. Damaged Property. The Mayor reported that Mr. Sievera was under the impression that the Council intended to wait on him an,, discuss matters relative to his property which he considered damaged when footpath improvement was being effected. In view of this he moved that Cr. Taylor and the Clerk wait on Mr. and Vepori tto the Council!.—Agreed to. W'ater for Cows. The question of supplying wafer for cows was considered and it wITs agreed to make an annual charge of 5s up to six cow •. over six £l. Pip?s.
