WAIKANAE.
It was gratifying to residents to see 'that, Mr. Field had such a successful sale of seaside sections, and it is now evident AA’aikanae will forgo ahead. Further advantages of the beach are as follows: — Fishing—On one side of township is bounded by the AA'aimelin River, famous for its whitebait, and rising from pure springs nearby. The Waikanae River, celebrated far and wide as a trout stream, is close at hand, fsen fish are abundant along the coast, and at the well-known .Kapiti fishing grounds about four miles distant, where the sport of kinglish angling, in particular, is fast growing in popularity. Several permanent campers, use their boats — which they house at the Waimelia mouth—for fishing, regularly and successfully, close to the shore; and large hauls of flounder, mullet, etc., are obtained by dragnets on the beach. The mouth of the Waikanae River where anchor, and from which they ply regularly, at. reasonable fare, to Kapiti, is .Mont a mile south of AVaimeha. ! Beach and bathing—The AVaikanac ’ beach, thuu which there is none bcttei in New Zealand, shelves gently to the | sea, is broad, flat, of hard clean sand, | and safe; is singularly fitted for motor I racing,, and is a bather’s paradise for ‘ adultt7*and children alike. i
Games and recreation —Mr. Field has dedicated the whole beach frontage of the township to the public as a promenade and for tennis, bowls, croquet, and other forms of recreation, which will form a valuable asset to the township. He will also set apart a. suitable area for school purposes. AVater supply—Sites for a pumping station and elevated reservoir will also be reserved for a pure spring water supply for the township from the AA’aimeha River. Every purchaser is assured of free access to this river along the whole township frontage to the sea. To supply the needs of purchasers building immediately, Mr. field is erecting a viudmill and pump on the bank of the Waimeha, and conveying the water to central and convenient points on Kauparaka Street. Fresh well water is also obtainable throughout the flat portions of the township at a depth of a few feet.
