CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary ol a, recently forme.] Paiaparauiiiu Club wrote informing tlie Association of its formation, and notifying their intention of entering for the senior grade competitions. The secretary of Hie Y.M.C.A. Club wrote nominating delegates, and also expressing the opinion that 'he shield matches started too late last year and expressing till. 1 bone Pin! it would be possible to begin earlier this season. The chairman said in connection with the time of starting matches that the matches could only start when the teams could be got, together. Mr Fletcher said till ar. one of the troubles was putting off matches for other fixtures. This had kept the season open much longer last year than would otherwise be the case. In connection with the Parapnraumu nomination, the chairman said it would be a case for (lie southern end to deal with. Mr Fletcher asked if it would no' be possible to work the whole district together instead of cutting it into two dist nets. The secretary said that the difficulty would be’ the amount of travelling necessary. There was already a great amount of this and such a move ns was suggested would add to it considerably’.
The chairman said that, such a , move would probably have the effect i of keeping young players out of the | clubs. He was of flic opinion that I if the district could have such a number of teams that travelling would be reduced to a minimum it would be 1 the best thing possible for the Asso- i c inti on, 1 TEAMS NOMINATED. j The secretary slated that in all pro- j liability Shannon would not he able i to put. a team in the field. Seven of tlie players were leaving and it would hardly be possible 1o carry on. Public Works, however, would almost certainly’ carry on. so that it would he safe to nominate one team for Shannon. j The following teams were nominal- I ed Y.M.C.A.. Wernron, Parapnraumu j and Otaki. Tf was decided that, the other clubs j be written to asking that they nomin- i ate as soon as possible. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected j for the coming season : Patron: Mr A. Dinnie (re-elected!, j President; Mr IT. Hook (re-elected), j Vice-presidents: Rev. M. Bawden- ! Harris and Messrs .T. Kobbell, E. Nash. M. Simcox and .1. P. Goodwin. I Ton. secretary and treasurer: Mr; A. Morgan (re-elected). Selector: Mr ,T. ,T. O’Connor. Delegates: Messrs D. S. McKenzie, and L. W. Fletcher (Y.M.C.A.) ; Mr 1 .1. E. Tin 11 (Weraroa). , OPENING DATE. it was decided that the opening clay be November 3rd. nominations to ( - close on October IPth. Rounds for the . competitions to be decided at- a com- j mit’ee meeting to be held at Shan-, non on that date. ! general. Mr Fieicliei brought up title question of die lime ol matches, saying 1 that when teams did not have to ravel the time should be extended j accessary for hall an hour at the end j of the lira toll. Ordinarily in the case J of a team half an hour late, the other | 1 team could claim the game. When a . home m.atcli was supposed to start- at j 2 p.m, a player who was late could t hold up a match for just under the ball hour, and 'ids time might affect the issue of the game. The, chairman asked how it would he in such cases to leave t-he matter in the hands of the umpires to say whether an extension should lie made. Tiie secretary doubted whether this could lie done." The matter would necessitate a new rule and he suggested that a notice of motion should be ; given. Mr Fletcher said that os there was ; no former rule rescinded that should not be necessary. He thought the umpires could be given power in the matter. What he suggested was that a hard and fast rule should be made that time lost, at the beginning of the game should be added on at the end. It might, not be necessary’ to have this extra time, but, a case might arise where a team which was on the ground and which had to wait half an hour for the other might under the present ruling lose the match through the loss of _ time. The following notice of motion was given.—That home teams playing in their own town must start at ~ p m., otherwise time to he made up* at tlie end of the day.” UN FINANCIAL MEMBERS, j. yi r Hall brought up the question of j unfinanci§J members, and suggested that after two matches, only financial • | members should be allowed to play, I ‘ Too many plavers thought they ' | should be allowed to play cricket witht out paying, and the expense ior rnaI terial;,' etc,, fell on the remaining j members. | The secretary asked if this were 5 J not a matter ior the individual clubs • to deal with.
Mr Hall said the matter was one that concerned all the clubs. _ and therefore concerned the Association. He would suggest that, when a member paid his subscription his receipt should be sent to the. secretary of the Association, and only these financial j members should be allowed to play in . matches- . I The chairman said that the clubs] might rely on the Association giving! evert- assistance in this matter, but he considered the matter was one for the clubs. One club at least bad dealt with the matter by allowing only. financial members to play and this had, bad the desired effect. Mr Fletcher smd Fiat many cases had arisen lasi ..Aar where unfinancial members had been played and it was not fair to the other teams. He was also against substitutes being brought in at the last minute. Where it was unavoidable such substitutes should be. allowed to field only, and not to bat. Where a team was advertised to plav that, should be the team that should'be brought on to the field and not have, perhaps, a good man rung in rhe .last, moment. He a.so considered that when a player was unfin anciai ,in one club he should
not be allowed to transfer to another. Such a man might be a couple of | years in arrears in his own. club and if I allowed to transfer his former club wouliT definitely lose this money’. Tlie secretary argued that in such cases +2ic fault lay. with the club which had "allowed the play’er to get into arrears. The chairman said that although some of the Clubs had made a rule that all members should be financial by December Ist, this did not cover arrears and he considered that the Association should assist in these -cases. On the motion of Mr Fletcher, seconded by Mr Hall, it was decided that no unfinancia] member of a club be granted a transfer to another club wi’hin ihe Association. O’CONNOR CUP. It was decided that the age limit, for ttiis trophy should be 15 years, no player having passed his 15th birthdm to be eligible. Uca.rtv votes of thanks to the chair and to Mr Williams for the use of his looms wore carried by acclamation.
