OTAKI CRICKET CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the above club was held last night in the Council Chambers. There was a good attendance, and Mr. Twist occupied the chair. In his opening remarks he stated that th'e club was on a better footing than last year, having a certain amounl of material, due largely to the .generosity of honorary members. He regretted that the club possessed several unfinancial members, in consequence of which it was in debt, and he hoped all would pay subs, overdue and thus help to place the club on a sound footing Last season the club, he said, had done ■well and had won the shield, and he desired that the club would again make a bid for supremacy. A playing ground might prove a stumbling block this season. but he hoped the Council and carnival committee would give the matter urgent attention. If the domain was
not available then another ground would have to be secured. Mr. Twist said there was a possibility of Tninui putting in a team for the championship, but was assured by some present that the prospects of such a club were not bright. He said in any case lie hoped all well together in tire interests of the game.
Touching on unfinancial members 111 general wish was that all should pa; before taking part this season, wliih Mr. Gib! in (secretary) said a mini be would not join the club on account o being allowed to remain mi iinancial.

'l'lie lima mutch was played at nevm and thunks is due to those Levin en,thusists who prepared the wicket lor the event. Luring the season one representative maten was played; that against Tararua, and here Horowliejiua secured a victory. Our long season and great number ol cup matches made it impossible lor us to play many representative mutches, it is it pity, however, that Horowhenua has not a. ground suitable lor rep. cricKoi, as sending a team to play our ‘home jmatches at Palmerston North d°es not gain tne sympathy ol the public to- j .wards cricket in this district. j “A new departure in cricket, and u | valuable one, was made possible by the inauguration ol a primary schools challenge competition.
