Firstly, an assault charge, was called .'ig-aiiui C. A. Slopford, the Te l J ot riding member, for assaulting E. J. Darby, t.lie Putaruru riding] ineniber. The police asked for an adjournment in view of the fact that Mr Darby was instituting a givil case arising out of the sunn' sei of circurastnuces. An adjournment sine die was granted. A charge of assault was then brought by Joseph Pohlen, the Mataniata tiding Btember, against C. A. Stopfoi'd, the aliegtition being that the defendant committed such an offence by threatening Hie complainant with personal violence tinder such circumstances as would lead complainant to believe he could have enforced thethretot. An application was made that defendant be bound over to keep the peace. After hearing,the evidence the Magistrate dismissed the case, both parties to pay their own costs.
