._ , ■*—- I A special general meeting of the subscribers was held -in the Librarylast evening, and was attended by Mesdamcs Swabey and Olliver, Miss Webby, Messrs Hannah, Percival, Vatts, 11, Freeman (trustee) aud Rev. r. F. I'etrie (chairman). Apologies were received from absent members of the committee, a number of whom were indisposed. The chairman, read extracts from the minutes re sale of the Library property, inoludj iag Mr. Bowden's offer to purchase, 'this had been accepted, subject to continuation by the H.nbsiSrLbprs and ,it ! was for this purpose the meeting had been convened. 'the Chairman staled that the deputation had waited on the Borough Council at their last meeting, re taking over the control of the Library with ,its assets and had received a vcry fiivoutable hearing. A reply would bo given by the Council after their mectI ing on Thursday next.
