FIVE HORSES BOLT.
USE DRAGGED HUNDRED YARDS. A man and a horse were injured, four trees were uprooted, .and a speed disc was palled down in Holdenstreet, Ashftekl, Sydney, the other day, when five horses attached to a furniture waggon bolted. The horses were being driven along Liverpool road, and were turned into Holden street, when they took fright. The driver tried to stop them but.'he was thruwu to the roadway, where lie lav until he was picked up and attended to by some men. Tlie horses continued on down Holden .street, dashing from one side of the! road to die other. At the corner of Norton street the heavy vehicle was hurled against the lour-iniles-an-hour disc, tearing it down. This (fid not stop the maddened horses—in fact, it made them gallop even faster. Suddenly one of the animals stumbled, and “fell with great force to the roadway. It was drawn underneath the waggon and was dragged fully 100 yards down the road. Rocking dangerously, the lorry crashed into two trees—each about 10 yards apart—in front of a doctor's surgery. The trees were tom out of the ground, roots and all. Then the waggon crashed into two more trees near Rose street, and they, also, were pulled out of the ground" All this time the horse tliat had fallen was being dragged along. It was screaming and struggling madly. Finally, thoroughly exhausted, the animals stopped near Arthur street. The horse that fell was badly cut about the legs and mouth. It was found upon examination that ihe driver of the horses had not been badly hurt.
