This had been a big job anc > the Engineer fully deserved the credit given for the prompt and efficient manner in which it had bean carried out. 1 Mrs. A. K. Champion, Otaki railway, . wrote asking the Council to find some ' other means of drawing storm watei off the Main Road, North Ohau, through j drain across the road at top of hill ad- ■ joining her property at Pukchou, which ! was being considerably damaged. — ; Referred to the Councillor for the riding for his consideration, Messrs Hair Bros., Jones, and London wrote asking when fht Council was going to do something to their road. They had paid rate* for the last three years and considered that they deserved more consideration than they were recoivhig. The Chair»»n said that tomothing should certainly he done. Tenders are iibw invited for the supply and delivery of metal for the roads in the northern part of this riding. It irmy intention to use Packakariki metal on tee Main road from the Mill gate at Maheraa to two mile* north of Makerua Station and the remainder of the roads will be metalled from the Tokomaru River. Another flood occurred in the Manawatu River on Friday, July 6th., and although considerable erosion took place on the western bank above the bridge on the Shannon-Foxton Road. I have to report practically no change on th» oastern bank. Winokino Riding: Most of the roads in this riding have received attention during the period; a number have received light maintenance and the mm have been employed in trimming and cleaning out water tables and replacing culverts, a fair number of which we're found to be in a very bad condition. A 12in. pipe culvert was put in on Arapaepa* Koad in front of Mr. Capper's property t« replace old Bin. one, «n«l a culvert was also put in On the rXiiukerifv Eoad where water-race iro.ssss Tamua Koad from Arapaepao Road to Gladstone Road. Water tables on Eahui, Freeman's aad Blair's Roads have been cleaned out and a new culvert will be required on Freeman's Road. e- Te Horo riding: The roads in this r . riding are a good deal out of repair and ig owing- to the continuous wet weath.ir s- i it has been impossible to do much work i on them, but teams are now engaged on e the Main Road and if the weather continues fine tenders will be called dur■r ing next week for the metalling of some ) of the district roads. The Otaki Gorge ,i Road is badly cut up through the e.art- ., ing of firewwod and if this continues, > it. will be quite impossible to maintain* .- with money available; the fencing ii on this road also requires attention. 1 Repairs to Otaki bridge have now been i completed, except the tarring of same. 3 A start was made with the bridge on - the Te Horo Beach Road, but owing to their being a doubt as to whether the new bridge is partly on private proi perty or not work has been stopped in 1 the meantime. Timber is on hand for the bridge on the Hautere Cross Rnr.d, and work will be commenced on this bridge on the completion of Beach Road , bridge. Re ford on Main Road near ; Te Horo factory: There arc two alterna- • fives in dealing with this, either banking and doing away with the ford, or cleaning out creek below the ford, but owing to the creek bed gradually rising this would only give-temporary relief.
