PENNY POSTAGE.
| Universal satisfaction. will be exi pressed with the intimation that penny | postage is to re-introduced in Xew j Zealand on October Ist. Cheap postage t affects all classes of the community, | and while the business people reap a ; great advantage in some respects, the | reduction of postage fees induces these people to make much greater use of the j postal service for advertising and i other purposes. Thus, without doubt, : the adoption of penny postage will re- , suit in an enormous increase in postal business. The Prime Minister estimates the loss of revenue through this concession in postage rates at a quarter of •a million per annum, but, judging by past experience, the growth of business; I will probably make up the greater part ; of this loss, if it docs not actuallv re- i ■suit in profit. Undoubtedly pennv postngc, in addition to being popular with : nil. will be u good business move for ; the Department. (
