MURPHY—BAXTER. A wedding which created a good deal of interest was celebrated iu All faints’ Chinch, I'oxton, by the liev. •' • H- A allot! on Thursday afternoon, the contracting parties being Miss Jessie Murphy and Mr. Harold Baxter, of Oiaki. The church was tastefully decorated by the bride’s girl friends and the service was choral (the bride "•iag a former member of the choir'. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law. Mr. Kidson. of Napier, was charmingly attired in creme crepe-de-eherie with panels and sleeves of silk lace, wore the orthodox veil anti orangv blossoms, and carried a bouquet of snowdrops and frezius. She was intended by her sister. Miss Murphy, who was attired in pale blue jersey silk with hat to match and carried a bouquet of pink heath. Mr. Cyril Bears (an old ex-soldier friend of the bride groom) of .Marlon, officiated as best man. After the ceremony the parts adjourned to Walls’ roomy where a number of guests were entertained and the usual toasts honoured and felicitous speeches made. Mr. and Mrs. Baxter left by motor lor the (south Island where the honeymoon will be spent after which they will take up their residence at Martou, —l’oxton “Herald.” DEWIS—KARSTEN. A very pretty wedding was celebrated by the Rev. Tremaine, of Rongotea, at. All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, on June frith, when Miss Amy ■antis Karston, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karston, of Bnitiesse, was mattied to 31 r. John Harold Uewis, onlv son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewis, of Palmerston North. Ihe bride. vh« was given away by her father, looked charming in a frock of white satin eharmeusc with au overdress of silk Shetland lace, liuished at the waist wit!, '•ilver hand made roses, an I trimmed with pearls. A handsome veil was kept in place by sprays of orange blossom, and she carried a bouqitel of snowdrops. maiden hair fern and frezbe*, The bridesmaids were Misses In ex Vie* loria Karston and Dorothy Karston, »i.-> iers of the bride. The former wore ■y frock of buttercup shot silk taffeta, and georgette to match, haufl'-omely beaded, and finished with handmade roaet. The hitter wore a frock of buttereug j ailette silk, with panels of georgcti-q Both bridesmaids woie hats of bin il panne velvet and curried bouquets of pale pink erica and narcissi. NolecU and Kona Heaps, nieces of (ho bride, acted as flower girls and wore dresses of orgumii petali. with veils of pink and blue tulle to match their respective dresses and trimmed with silver leave'. They also wore silver wreaths and carried baskets of spring flowers. Mr. Legg. of I'eilding, was best. man. The ceremony took place at 1 p.m. and long before the appointed time a good number of frievk- had assembled to witness the ceremony. The service w a musical one, Mrs. J. Ballister preside ing at organ. At the subsequent m-ceptic-n the happy eoupl- received upward.-; of 70 guests. After the loyal toast had been honoured ihr Rev, Tremaine proposed the toast of “ BridS and Bridegroom, ’ ’ the bridegroom res sponding briefly. The usual othcl toasts followed in their order and wenj all responded to. Numerous telegram* were received from friends in both North and South Islands, all convey- • ing best wishes for their iutu.ro prosperity to the newly married coup!*. The reception coneluiled with, the staging of the National Anthem. Later, the happy pair left on their honeymoon tu Wanganui and New Plymouth. The bride travelled in u navy costume tv! hat eo suite. The wedding cake was of three tiers, being made and presented by Mi-s I. V. Karsten, sister of the bride, and iced by Mrs. A. Gray. It was greatly admired by all. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a beautiful hand-bag and purse, and ft" bride’s, present to the bridegroom was a handsome set of brushes. The brinegroom’s pre-ent to the bridesmaid* were amethyst brooches. The present* to the bride and bridegroom were minisrous and came from friend* far and near. ,
