Tins game, played at Otaki oj* a heavy ground, was not so intejjeiting as speotat*r* desired. it lacking ginger from the kick off. The forwards were equally matched, but Otaki had Iha ad-vant-age in the hack division sad at limes fairly good passing bouts were indulged in. They were, however, not crisp and clean, and at the eritiesl time the hall was dropped or a playin' would kick when he should have passed, and vice versa. Mclntyre initiated most of tire passing bouts, while fling opened up with good runs, Both, passed well. It was from a loose rush that the only score was obtained, King passing to Batten, who in turn transferred to Gidde*s. The latter mad# a l'eeble attempt to beat his opponents asd in the melee which followed F. Lima grabbed the ball and dived over the line under the goal-posts. Tnna ’s attempt to convert was a poor one. Batten, Hidden* and Freeman wera afterwards conspicuous, but Lynch, in the threequarter division, proved thfr stumblingblock. Then Guldens marked but missed the goal, after which ('roll had a good, but unsuccessful shot, at g*al for Partparauniu. The spell thorn, ended — Otaki 8, Paraparaumu nil. The Kt’comd spell was brighter than the first, and t-k» visitors played better football. The forwards, a. solid lot of grafter*, lacking knowledge, sent the ball out. to Loitch, who made good use of it. but was net strongly supported. Early im the spell Croll had another unsuccessful shot at goal and Otaki accepted a force. Afte wme discussion, however, in whicl the chairman pointed out that thi ina.teh was .not likely to be an expen sive one, ns the challengers’ expense; wore the first, charge on the “gate attar the expenses of the game wer« paid, it was decided on the motion ol Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Casey, that the Talhape sub-Union be written to explaining that owing to distance a; home and borne arrangement would not. be suitable, the secretary being further instructed to write to the New Zealand Rugby Union for conditions relating to the Ranfurly Shield. The Wellington Rugby Union wrote suggesting that for the proposed combined Wellington, Horowhenua, and Mann wain team to ploy New South Wales, the selectors should be aipnoinfed hs follows: Three from Wellington. and one from each of the other two Unions or two from Wellington and one from the other two combined.' Mr Casey moved, that a suggestion be sent fo the N.Z.R.U. that there be one selector appointed from each Union. Mr MeAtillnn seconded the > motion which was-carried unanimous-, ly.
.. A lelfer Wfs r°coived from ihe Wei- 1 L lington Rugby Union suggesting that, - Hie proposed Mannwntu, Ilorowhenua - ;inr? Wellington Unions combination, , play N.P under the Wellington I Union’s colours. —Agreed. ■ 1 The Deport! enl of Internal .'(fairs > wrote ackno- 'edging receipt of application for. an nr! union. In connection with this the sc ere-' ta.ry said that, if was necessary to arrange details as soon as possible so as to get, the money-raising scheme floated earjy in Ihe football season. ITo suggested that-a committee be sol up (o.deai with details. On the motion of Mr Sciascia, .seconded by Mr Hutchings, a. committee consisting of the : chairman, 'secretary, and Mr McMillan were set up.
The secretary was instructed 1c write to the executive of the Otaki Mardi Gras regarding gate-money from tlio match played in connection with that effort. Accounts amounting to £7 15s were passed for payment. QUESTION OF BOUNDARIES, to connection with the houndavies of the Te Kawnn sub-Union, Ihe secretary explained that he had conferred with oftlcialsxpf the Manawatu Union, and that there was no doubt that (lie sub-Union had encroached considerably On Horowlienua territory. The encroachment amounted to nine miles, and whilst it was impossible for the Union to allow this to continue, tie suggested that it would be undesirable at the present, juncture lo take steps which would proveni Te Kawau fronl carrying out their competition arrangements. On. the motion .of liie chairman, seconded by Mr Sciascin., it. was decided to write to the Te Kawau subUniorr pointing out the position., and giving permission to. players from the territory affected to play for lhat Union for the- present season, but informing them that next season al! players within the Horowlienna Rugby Union’s boundaries must play within the Un-ion. A hearty vote to the chair and to Mr Nash for the use of his rooms, concluded the meeting. fit connection with last Saturday's representative game at Levin, the Maxmwatu manager (Mr C. W. White) reported to the meeting of the Manawatu Union that, although Horowhenua' team was 100 good for Mannwatu. the game wag played in the usual good spirit Iliat existed between the two bodies. While the Manawatu team did not, play up to form expected of h. they must, not lose sight of •he r-'ft that it was up against n set of well-lrn.ined forwards that would rlo cra-iif to anv provinvial team. The committee deliberated fro ’ - -m ipe great nocssity—particularly in ' io- of SatiT'-lav’s m'Hfe.h—of assembling the tean • yfo-nber.- of tlie committee stated that it had proved an object lesson to the'local union, and if the luestion were not gone into, the coming tour of the Manawatu represenI'liiv* team, might suffer in a like manual’. It was finally decided tlr !'<e president, secretary and Mr WT " be asked 1n bring forward a sche , ,r 'or assembling the teams of representatives for practice. ■waßmaira
