WORKS' COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the 'Works' Committee vas held on Tuesday afternoon, when here were present: Crs. Kilsby (chairman), Kilmistor, Coekroll, Rikihana, Taylor, and the Town Clerk. Correspondence. From Mr Clarke, asking permission to. plant trees on avenue near his property.—Permission granted. Tenders Cor laying 1 to chains of water mains were then opened as follow.'r j Scott, £o per chain, connections, one shilling per foot; McMillan, £2 7s 6d [per chain, connections 7d per foot; W. I and G. Cooles, £282 15s. and 9d per foot; Morguu and Scarancke, £2 2s lie per chain, 9d per foot; D. Kennedy, £2 12s 6d per chain, '.Hi per foot, plus two -hillings drilling mains and £3O insurance, etc.: Ross Webby, £2 .Ills per. chain, Is (id and Is 9d per foot. It was resolved to accept the fender of Morgan and .Scarancke, provided they employ a pipe-litter approved by Engineer.
It was resolved that on future ton- ' ders a deposit of o per cent, must ae- ! •ompany tender. An amendment thai ' amount lie 2i per cent, was lost on the chairman's casting vote. A letter was read from the Chamber of Commerce requesting lights be plac i'd on open drains. Resolved to reply that the matter would be attended to in future. Plans for drainage wove brought forward by the Engineer. Or Cr. Kilmister's motion the matter was held over till after next Council meetting, to allow of Council finishing with water works first. Cr. Cockrell asked thai his name be recorded voting against the delay. It was decided that metal be placed on roads at corner near the police station, at motor stand at railway station. in front of Eeay's butcher .-hop, and till in pot holes in various places.
