QUEEN CARNIVAL.

POSITION OP QUEENS. So far, with declarations made to the Executive, the positions of the queens are Its follows:

Town Queen. Maori Queen. Railway Queen. Beach Queen.

A meeting of represents!i- es of the various queens was held on Friday afternoon, Mr. H. Witehell presiding. Mr Cecil Day, of Levin, was present, and during the meeting made several important suggestions. In answer to a request he stated that lie was quite willing to supervise matters in connection with the coronation ceremony, it being agreed that one should be held. He stated it was necessary to have about 25 flower girls, three young ladies, and several young men in dress suits, to assist. The cloak, crown and sceptre, lie thought, he could secure lor the queen, and was agreeable to hold one or two rehear als. Mr. Day was thanked for his oker id assistance,

ii being recognised that owing to previous experience he would be the right man in the right place. It was decided to make a declaration of the carnival at the picture display on Friday at S p.m., and announce the haul result at half-time. It was also agreed to hold the coronation ceremony on 'Thursday, 21st. and that -Mrs. Stvtc bev be asked to secure the necessary number of children.

The carnival, which has been in progo is for the past three weeks, should be the means of raising sufficient money to enable the Borough Council to carry out extensive improvements to the domain, which is at present in a rough state. The various committee' have worked splendidly, the public hits responded liberally, and when the final announcement is made uu Iriday night lit should prove gratifying to all. Proceedings terminate at midnight on Wednesday, and later the coronation ceremony will follow COMBINED CONCERT. To-morrow night the combined concert and dune e in aid of the-Maori and Beach queens will be held, and a - the programme is an excellent one, the attendance should b- a record. The garden party at the kiosk was splendidly attended, despite counter at- ' tractions, and those present were fully catered for with the helter-skelter, treasure hunts, etc., etc. In the evening a dance teas held when there was a 1 splendid attendance. Credit for the sueec-s of the affair is due to a capable management committee. TOWN QUEEN. Lovers of skating should .not miss the opportunity to attend at the Town Hall to-night. Learners and children will skate from 7 p.w. to t.3u p.rn., af--1 ter which there will be open cornpeti- ■ tions. The management for the Town queen. ■ although there is no great outward show, is working quietly, and the funds have recently been considerably augmented fry proceeds IT ' Jla skating. BAILWAY QUEEN. The Bailway queen should receive a welcome reception at Manakati tonight. the occasion of a dance for her benefit. There will be music by the Band, while an appetising supper and tip-top floor are promised. .•supporters of the Railway queen intend to gather in full force at the euchre party and dance at the Empire Hull to-morrow night. It will he the final for the ceremony, and outsiders are cordially invited. Shop days for the Railway queen will be held at the Otaki Railway to-mor-row- and Wednesday. All should buy while the opportunity is given—after Wednesday it will be too late. The fete held on Saturday on the Domain in aid of the Railway queen aroused interest, and the management is deserving of every credit. There were various ton.-., of sport, and all spent a pleasant day. Among those who did much to anra.-t- the crowd were hiessr- E. Nash and E. Thompson, who were in fancy costumes, while every credit is due to the stall holders for the way in which they worked- Messrs G. Siddeils and Bert Kihiiister guessed the weight of the sheep and generously donated the prize (a sheep given by Mr Podevia) back for the fund-. MAORI QUEEN. A shop day was the main feature on .
