THE LATE HON. HUIA ONSLOW.

A MOTHER’S APPRECIATION. When the late Hon. Huia Onslowdied earlier in the year, a message 1 of sympathy was sent through Sir Maui Pomare, by Air. Here Nicholson, lof Levin, to I,a_dv Onslow, expressing ment from Lady Onslow of the tribal sympathy. She writes from Cap Antilles, in the South of France: —“Dear "rends, —Your most kind letter of sympathy in my great grief has reached me here. I am travelling, having been very ill. I do thank you Chiefs and the whole of the Ngatihuin tribe, for your letter and for its expressions of grief for my dearly-loved j son. Huia loved New Zealand, the ! land of his birth—he had always been j glad and happy that he had once more returned to it and seen you all and received all your kindness, hos- 1 pitalify and your aiTectionate remembrance of him. My consolation is that he is free once more and 1 feel that his courage and his long gallant

light, for eleven years of his short life, have not been lived in vain. T am very proud of my son. blit I am very lonely without Huia. Farewell, lear friends. My best thanks for all /our sympathy and kindness, to teel iiat you all sorrow with me and for Huia is a consolation. May the great Cod we all worship, protect and prosper you all: that is my siticerest wish. Always your friend. FLORENCE ONs LOW. ’ ’
