DRAINAGE MATTERS.
WHY THE DELAY? At yesterday ’s meeting of the Otaki Borough Council the Mayor said a remark had come from the Works’ Committee that there was no hurry to carry out the drainage scheme. He thought, especially as they had money and pipes, that men should be given employment for the winter months.
Cr. Kilmister said that he had had a deal of experience in drainage work, and maintained it would cost much more to do the work duiing the winter months. The ground was also bad in wet - weather, and working conditions would therefore be unsatisfatory. Mr Davies said that he did not anticipate any trouble, and that he would like to have the consulting engineer’s opinion on the scheme. He saw no drawback in starting' the work as soon as the plans were approved of. The Mayor favoured finding employment for men during tin.’ winter mouths, but Cr. Kilmister said the work should not be hurried. If there was any hurry | a meeting could be called later. Cr. O’Rourke suggested that the mat- ! ter be discussed when the plans'were . approved of. j Cr. Kilmister said the Works’ Com- , niittee was willing to consider the plans ! at any time. j ft was agreed that the plans be submitted at an early meeting.
