WOOL MATTERS. OVERWEIGHT AND BROKERAGE. WELLINGTON. May 3. At a meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day a letter was read from the Minister for Agriculture with reference to the practice of deducting 11b per ewt. on wool sold. The Minister stated the matter was receiving the close attention of the Government and High Commissioner, who had interested himself specially in the question. The Minister regretted there was no immediate prospect of bringing ahoui an abolition of the practice. The High Commissioner, however, would continue to do his best and he proposed to get. the Government representatives in London of even- British Dominion interested in the'matter so that united representations can be made. It was decided by the executive to approach the Woolbrokere' Association with a view of endeavouring to get a reduction in charges to be met by farmers in connection with wool sales.
DAIRY FARMERS IN CONFERENCE. PALMERSTON N., May 3. The first annual conference of the Wellington Provincial Dairy Farmers Union opened this morning. Delegates were present from many branches in the district. Mr P. J. Small, provincial president, is presiding. The delegates were welcomed by t-lie Mavor Mr Nathan, who formally opened the conference. COMMITTED FOR BIGAMY.
