DAIRYMEN PREFER POWER.
BOARD MEMBER’S IMPRESSIONS OF WAIKATO.
Dining a recent visit lo tlie Wuikuto Mr Mackay, a member of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board, saw something of the development, of hydro-electric power by the Central Board, centering on Hamilton. Giving some of his impressions to the Horowhenua Board, Mr Mackay said lie was very pleased with what lie saw. What struck him most was the hearty way in which, the dairy people had gone for tlie power. Numbers to whom lie spoke told him that they would not now he without its. aid, and on seeing the electric power in operation lie could quite understand their preference. It meant a very big tiling for the dairy farmers. Mr Mackay said lie had been very much interested in seeing how the power was broken down and distributed to various points. He acknowledged the courtesy of tlie Central chairman, Mr Hinton,' in giving him facilities, and also the assistance of Mr Overton who happened to be in Hamilton while he was there. It was a very instructive experience to see the thing in its working stages and one that would do | till members of this Board good. One lliiitg that impressed him was the readiness of the Board to send out i men to attend to consumers' difficulI ties. No doubt in the initial stages it, was tptite right for the Board to lake the responsibility lor anything that happened. Every consumer he came in contact with had faith that tlie Board would not let them down in any way and lie thought that was as it should be. "I had a very good time and met a fine lot of men” added Mr Mackay.
Mr Kilsby asked whether. f»er seeing the milking mnehines driven by clectrieity, Mr Maekiiy would recommend anyone down bore to throw mil an internal combustion engine and replace it by an electric motor. Mr Mackey: I should say there is no doubt about it. I had my doubts about getting people to take up the power, but after serine the results there 1 am satisfied. Ml- Kilsby: \re they throwing out their intermit combustion engines in
the Waikato? the Engineer: Tine Hoard cannot deal with (lie applications quirk enough. There are deputations asking fur power, to every meeting oi the Roa rd. Mr Gunning: No one wants to l"’ troubled with an engine when by turning it switcli one can pul the power on. The chairman (Mr Monk) said Mi Mackay'- observations were very interesting and the thanks of Ihe Hoard were accorded him.
