MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
Preparations are being made throughout Hew Zealand for the municipal elections which take place in April. His AVorship tho Mayor (Air Brandon) has consented to be again nominated for the position as Chief Magistrate, but so
far it is not known how ninny of the 1 present councilors will seek re-election. ! There are corU.T differences between' Parliamentary ancl the municipal I'ran- j cliise. In the case of enrolment for a Parliamentary roll a claimant must be j over 21 years of age, a British subject, by birth or naturalisation, and must 1 have been in the country for twelve months at the date of application for | enrolment,- In the case of a municipal ,
electoral roll, a person may claim cn- | ndnicnr as a ratepayer, freeholder, or on residential grounds. If he claims enrolment on the residential basis he must be able to testily that he lias not only been in New Zealand for twelve mouths, but that he has been a tenant or sub-tenant in tl:c district for a period of three months prior to the date of application. If a person becomes a freeholder or a ratepayer (self or wife) the three months’ residence is waived. Again, in tlic; case of a municipal electors' roll, the applicant has to state by whose right he or she is applying for enrolment, and must make a solemn declaration that all statements made are the truth.
