COUNTY WORKMEN.
WORKING WITH COATS ON. At a County Council meeting in the Feilding district recently one member of the Co unmil asked the Overseer if a certain roadman was a good man, "because,” said the Councillor, ‘‘l passed him at 10 o’clock the other morning and he had his coat on.” ‘‘He always has his coat oil' when I am about,” replied the Overseer, ‘‘and he works very well.” Another Councillor said he had seen a roadman with running togs on. but his mates, with their coats on, were doing more work. This was capped by a third member of the Council, who said he | had worked all day in a metal pi! once with his coat on. ‘‘The boss tobi me to take ii off, but 1 said ‘No,' t would go shovel for shovel with him all day with my coat on. ” .1 did so. too. had kept my coat on. and I told hi my shirt was torn from top to bottoi and I would have got sunburnt all ovt hud I taken my coat off. But it wi the only time I ever did such a day work with the coat on.
