MANAKAU GYMKHANA.
A GREAT SUCCESS. The gymkhana, held in Mr Inge’s paddock, Manakau. on Wednesday, proved very successful, and the management is deserving of hearty congratulations. All worked energetically, and it is gratifying to know that as a result of their efforts a considerable sum was raised for the funds of the Anglican Church. During the day n sports’ programme was successfully carried out, while the various stallholders did good business. Chief among the workers was Mr T\ 11. Clarkson, who, as secretary, proved the right man for the position. He was ably assisted by Mr C. Cotter, while other oflieials who did well were Mr T. Lciteh (starter), Mr Bert Glee-son (hanuieapper). Mr A. Sclioles (course steward), Messrs Bryant, Dalzell, Burnell and Major Tatum (judges), and Mr Percy Simco-x. Others also assisted. The stall-holders were: —Produce, Mesdaines Burnell and Tatum; sweets, Misses Ruby Bevan, Monk and Burnell; plain and fancy, Mrs Evans, Mrs Dimock, Misses Dyer. Elsie Bryant, and Hill; refreshments. Mesdame.s Sckoles. Cotter, Simeo::, Drake, Nye, and Monk: lish pond, Misses Colter; guessing competitions. Mrs Smith, Mr Clifford, and assistants. The following are the results of the sports:— Boys’ Race —G. Cook J. A. Cook -. S. Knocks 2. Chain-stepping—Peter King and A. Stuckey (tie). Ladies’ Chain-stepping—Miss Clifford 1 and 3 (two entries), Miss May Colville 2. The ladies showed splendid judgment and like the men measured almost the exact distance. Hurdles —First heat: \\". Pu'i !. M. Baker 2. Second heat: 11. Wallace 1. L. Enoka 2. Third heat: Meta Johnson 1. Chappie Anoka 2. Final: Meta I, "Wallace 2, Putt 5. Potato dropping in tins from motorear —C. Dimock (driver) and Eagle 1. There were several competitors, the majority of whom did well. There were a few who missed all the tins. Relay Race —Manakau team (Eagle. Nees and L. Bowden) 1. Men’s Relay—Otaki team (Enolctt (21 and Baker) 1. This was a good race, won in the last ten yards. Married Ladies’ Race —Mrs Dave Gardener 1. Mrs Bert Robin'on 2. Mrs Falloon 3. A good race well won.
Single Ladies’ Race—-Miss Ivy (Morgan 1, Miss Margaret Clifford 2, Mis? Irma Bevan 3. 220 Yards —L. E, Latham 1, E. Evans 2. H. George 3. Slow Bicycle Race —Birnie Petrie 1. Won easily. Sack Race —W. 11. Bowden 1. Won with ease. Hop, Step, and Jump—W. Puti. Girls’ Sack Race —Margaret Clifford 1, Edna Monk 2. Ada- Burnell 3. Girls’ Race —Nancy Clcland 1, Irma Bevan 2. Ivy Morgan 3.

At the conclusion hearty votes of thanks were accorded all workers, while a special vote was given the Otaki Brass Band, who discoursed quite a number of pleasing selections. 150 Yards Novelty Race. —W.
