RIFLE SHOOTING

On Easter Monday the Horowhenua Kifle Association held their first annual district meeting on the Hautero rifle range. There were 62 entries for the meet ing. The morning opened up with heavy rain, delaying the start from 9 a.m. to 9.45; the weather them cleared, and a light right drift set in with occasional lulls which caused a lot of discomfort to the marksmen. Everything went oil' without a hitch and the Association is to be congratulated on the number of entries received. Thanks are clue to the range officers, Messrs Or. P. Catley and G. A. Monk, for the way they pushed the shooting along, and Mr !6. Ellis, the trench officer, and the markers for splendid serivee in the butts. The District Championship was ■ won by Bflmn. it. Eraukland, who put • up a splendid shoot m the final 600 yds, , 5554055 —34, which was the test shoo! of the day. The runner-up, Kflmn. A. Thomson secured the same score at 500 yards.
