WATER SUPPLY.
LI.ViT A>"D OTAKI. To The Editor. sir,—A correspondent in a late issue of the “Mail” drew attention to the! comparative sizer of the pipes supply-J ing Levin and Otaki, and for comparj- j son said •? x 3—64 and 10 x 10—100. In. doing this he was right as far a? the actual multiplication goes, but for water siuppU* purposes the equation toll us nothing. To find the area j of a pipe- you proceed as follows: j Levin. 10 xlO .7654—73,5400 inches., Otaki. $ x ? x .7354—50.2056 inches. Personally I ■■ r,« - itor Otaki was unwise to terminate their 3-inch pipe at the Railway, and proceed to town in 6-inch. If an S-inelr had been taken to the Post Ofiice via Mill Road, an adequate supply for all purposes would have been available. The prospective revenue from gardens and small r.ower wheels would have been considerable, and it would have been a great help in meeting the interest on the water loan. But as it is the size of the pipeafter it leaves the Railway will not allow of rmfch water being sold, anq so the burden will fall on the poor oid ratepaver. —I am, etc.. WATTOHII.
