Hannan, with pret sideut and secretary ex officio. Mr Procter moved that the Union have one selector instead of three, this to go in as a suggestion from the ciub to tiie ttuiuvvhenua Rugby iiiiion. Alt Nadi supported the motion, iiiere nod been, he said, too much difficulty in getting the -electors together when necessary, and better results would lp obtained by having only one. subject to the necessary support from one other club, the motion was carried. Replying to a question by Mr J. Hopn, the chairman said the club had, j m ;i previous meeting, passed a rei solution in favour of amalgamation with the M.uuiwam l nion, if -favouraide conditions could be u blamed. The big difficulty was the question; of representation. The suggestion; of the Mauawam Union was that Horowhenua, in the event of amalgamation, shouid, have a representation of five, Manawatu to be represented by its Management Committee. As Manavatu would 'not dbTiuc the- numbers cf
this committee Horowlienua might fiiui itself hopelessly outvoted. Under , the circumstances, the proposal had 1 been negatived. The Horowlienua I Union's suggestion was tiiat Horowiienua have a representation of [ three as against Man;;-vatu's lour, but this Manawatu would not agree to. Mr L. G. McDonald suggested that the. club oppose the amalgamation, as against the hest interests of the club Mr 11. McDonald spoke strongly in favour of amalgamation. At present the Horowlienua Union was in the position of not being able to get outside recognition. Could tiiis outside recognition be effected, they mightl hope fur a general improvement in jj iliis direction, and consequently be: 1 ter match arrangements. J The meeting decided in favour oi amalgamation if favourable condi- i tions could be obtained. 1 On ihe question of reverting to the, ruit-s as played before last season, Mr | H. McDonald meved that, should the | matter come up for discussion at the I meeting of the Hugby Union, there should be a recommendation from me club to the Union that the old rules be reverted to. This was seconded by Mr L. G. McDonald. Mr Procter opposed the motion, saying that this was primarily a matter tor the playing members to decide, . and that there was not a sufficient ! number of players present to speak ! authoritatively. j There was keen discussion on the ! question. | Mr H. McDonald said that New Zeu- | land was now in the position of bej ing forced to play one set of rules ! lor local play, and another il a team : was sent abroad, or in the case of a j visiting team. The rules had been | tried out, and whilst there were eer I tain advantages there was more J-»st than gained by not being in line with other countries. Mr Procter said that the New Zealand Union had not the power to alter the rules. It had been necessary to obtain permission from the English Hugby Union tu play the amended rules, and it would be neces sary to obtain permission for another change. It was linaiJy decided that, should the matter be raised, the club sup ; port the re-adoption of the old rules, j Mr Hopa suggested that delegates support at the I’.ngby Union meeting that junior .reps, be classified beiore the beginning of the season. 1 Mi W. Hannan moved as a recoin. I meudation t*> the Union, "Thai no player who has played senior be allowed to revert to junior." This was 1 seconded by Mr U. G. McDonald and carried.
